The other post card I received this week was one that Patty sent. It has the colors that I saw while shopping this week. I think I bought a tee shirt in many of these colors while shopping. I love the quote on the front of Patty's card "If I could say it in words there would be no reason to paint."

From Cat to Patty
Imagine my delight to receive this BRIGHT colored card in my mailbox today. It's a Mad Catter original...of a dog. I love his silly expression! For some reason I thought Cat only painted cats. My mistake! There is a quote on the back from Pablo Picasso - Art washes away from the soul the dust of every day life. How true. I always feel energized after spending time creating art. Thank you Cat!
All sent!
Cards from Suki and Patty
Some say it was a pear Eve ate.
Why else the shape of the womb,
or of the cello
Whose single song is grief for the parent tree?
Why else the fruit itself
tawny and sweet
which your lover
over breakfast
lets go your pear- shaped breast
to reach for?
Linda Pastan
Isn't this just great al together?
Love the card Suki!

From Caroline to Joss
From Suki to Patty
Suki - I received your black and white card in the mail today! I too love the beauty of b & w - I'm a big fan of Ansel Adams' photography. Suki writes on the back "this collage is made from a print of my own photos and scraps from an old journal and a fragment of a b & w painting." I'm not sure if something else was attached or if it got water damaged. There is a layer of glue along the front center that makes me think something else was there. Regardless, I think it has a stark beauty to it, at first glance it looks like a lone birch tree! Thank you Suki! I love checking the mail now!

suki's card from Joss
I am about to send out my last card to Patti. Just have to write on the back. This has been fun. Thank you all.
Card from Marianne for Caroline
This wonderful little card sailed in yesterday! Marianne has folded a map of SE Asia with Malaysia on the front side (in flight magazine, by any chance?!!), making its way across the sea to China under a big sparkly sun! What an original idea Marianne - I love it and am so happy it arrived intact! By the way, it's much brighter in real life than the pic shows - Marianne always uses such beautiful colours! I tried scanning but that flattened the boat, so I took a photo so you could see the form better and despite adjusting the levels, it's not doing it justice!! On the reverse there is some text in Dutch which reads " Met je verstand kun je ver komen. Met je verbeelding overal" which in translation I think means something like this: "With knowledge you can come a long way, with imagination you can get everywhere"! I certainly agree with this - Thank you Marianne!
P.S. Thanks for the kind messages re my upcoming operation!

lookie what I got today!
On the back the note reads: 'You will always be lucky if you know how to make friends with strange cats' ~Colonial Proverb
That is just soooo true!!

Postcard from Lynn to Caroline
Hurray!!! Look what arrived on Saturday from Lynn and in perfect condition too! This is Tia, my kitty! I'm sure those of you who've seen her on my blog will agree that this is a super likeness - HRH Tia is most impressed.! It's a wonderful thread painting - thank you Lynn (and Henry V, of course) your creativity is astounding - we've been admiring our postcard all weekend.
From Suki and Joss
I got these cards this week from Suki and Joss - so wonderful. Suki has a great poem on the back which starts with "the first fish I ever caught would not lie down quiet in the pail" - a poem by Mary Oliver who Suki loves.
Joss' card is colorful and lively and states that 'each day comes bearing it's own gifts" - how true! Joss, the address part of the card was hanging on by a thread - more glue girlfriend!
I've been spraying a bit of varnish on my cards if they are inkjet printed, just to save them from total destruction by the rain. I worry a bit when I glue two pieces of paper together, and am trying to do one side heavy and the other side (usually the address side) in a lighter weight paper. Or else I am stitching the two sides together - I guess whatever works.

Suki's Card for Lynn Arrived Today!
Untie the Ribbons
This beautiful card came by Royal Mail (Joss) to me in Alaska. It's a stamped image and the ribbon matches so perfectly. It barely made it though, as the back and front detached as I removed it from my mailbox. If it had done that just one stop sooner, there would have been no address. I'm glad it decided to hold on long enough to get to me. She writes on the back, "I like the concept, Untie the Ribbons, you never know what you will find!" I agree. I'm always up for a surprise. Life is good! Thank you Joss!

Mim card to Joss and Bad Luck
And there is a recipe from the White House Cookbook (1887) for a fish soup (yuk not for me.)
Such a fun card, thanks Mim.
The bad news is that I made and sent this card to Caroline and it has arrived badly damaged. The picture on the front is completely torn away, and it is ruined. This was my inital fear, in doing a postcard project, what condition would they arrive in?
I decided to make mine all collaged, and quite bulky too. Eeeeeek!I finished the last four cards last weekend and posted them too, so all are done. Gosh, I hope this doesn't happen to any of my others. I will definitely make Caroline another card, but this was a one and only original, never to be made again. So sorry Caroline.

From Marianne to Joss
They are nimble, elegant, serene and vegetarians (all qualities they share with me!)
Marianne sent me this delightful postcard with scenery of the African 'veld' done in watercolour and this wise lady giraffe popping in to say 'Hi!' (must be a lady- look at those long eyelashes!)
The quote on the back says:
"And as we let our light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same." Nelson Mandela (of course).
Thank you so much Marianne, it is such a thoughful card made by a very dear and thoughtful friend.

From Lisa to Patty
I received this lovely card on Thursday last week but we were heading right back out to the cabin so I didn't have time to scan and post it then. There are elements of lace/sheer fabric in the background and then paper cut lace out front with a beautiful silver quill pen. I love the added touch of a monkey riding a polar bear (must have been made for me!) The post office got a few smudges on it, but it still came through quite beautifully. There is a verse on the back from a poem by John Donnne
"Blasted with sighs, and surrounded with tears, Hither I come to seek the spring. And at mine eyes, and at mine ears, Receive such balms as else cure everything."
There are some smudges on the poem, so hope that came through correctly. Another hint of SPRING! I am so ready!

two post cards for suki
I also found this beautiful card from Marianne. Home is where the heart is. A little 3D butterfly is affixed to the card and it didnt come off in the travel! "Just a little card to help you stay positive about finding your dream home," Marianne wrote. Thanks Marianne. I wonder if you used the photo of the house to paint this house in the middle of the heart??? It looks a lot like it!

Postcard from Patty
Just take a look at what floated into my mailbox yesterday!! Isn't this a gorgeous, colourful card? Thanks Patty, I love it - it really brightened up my day and I think it's such a wonderful interpetation of the quote on the reverse, which reads:
others transform a yellow spot into the sun." - Pablo Picasso

Fortune Cookies
I received three fortune cookies in the mail today from Lolo. What an ingenious card and design! The cookies are watercolor painted and the fortunes are typed on paper that is attached. It's a possibility they are real fortunes that came out of cookies Lolo already ate; I don't know that for a fact, but I have a vision of her eating cookies, carefully wiping off the crumbs and then attaching the fortunes to this card! And Lolo, I love your stamps made with your own design - that is way cool!
I had mail!!!!!
The back is so cute. Kitty cat is fishing and around it it says:
A true friend is someone who reaches for your hand and touches your heart
I love it! ♥
Miss Hazelwood made of the inside of an envelop.
So creative!
I just love that saying by Ghandi: Be the chance you want to see in the world.
And she wrote some sweet words on the back!
I have only posted 2 so far........ (one is on it's way to Patty)
I promise to make more soon!
But I have been preoccupied with other things. After my exam and trip to Chicago I hope to back in my routine and produce more art again next week.
