Lisa, you have no idea what you've done here I do not think. How could you know that you created a collage using a song my DH has been singing for forty years? One that I absolutely go weak knees over every time he sings it. (Rocky Top was written by Felice and Boudleaux Bryant, who also wrote a lot of songs for the Everly Brothers. If you want to read all the lyrics to this song go to this link.)
This lovely card with it's Tennessee mountains, birds in flight and a stately hawk over the song lyrics is wonderful to see. And I am still smiling broadly from the chord it struck with me. This bird on the back is surrounded by a poem by Langston Hughes and says:
"Hold fast to dreams for if dreams die, life is a broken winged bird that cannot fly..."

I love this too. Being from TN and you really can't get more Rocky Top than Lookout Mtn. where you can see 5 states, and there is a 'good' side and a 'hallor' side.
ReplyDeleteDH was here and I said did you see what the words to the song were. He goes yea, it's a moonshine song. We would sing that around the church campfire, but they would never take us to a restaurant that served alcohol.
That is funny.
This reminded me of a really good book called, The Education of Little Tree. If you haven't read it you are in for a treat.

Isn't that cool that Lisa created something with such an important song for Lynn in it?! This can't be a coincidence.......
ReplyDeleteLovely card Lisa! And those words on the back!!!
And so perfect for Lynn, this must feel good.
lisa you are perfect. did you know? what a real treasure this is.
ReplyDeleteA treasure for sure!! Wow!!
ReplyDeleteOh my, I'm loving this exchange!! And that Langston Hughes quote has always been one that stays in my heart because I believe it so much.
ReplyDeleteWhat serendipity this card is with the song!!
You can't get more special that that ;)
Wonderful job Lisa!
what a wonderful card and how neat it embodies your favorite song.
ReplyDeleteI love how things are striking chords-for me-before I read this I was just thinking about a trip to Black Mesa-Oklahoma's version of Rocky Top-last time I was there my friend and I sang that song all day long.
ReplyDeleteI am so happy you like it Lynn. I love the mountains. I have seen photos of your DH with his acoustic guitar and I knew that he probably played some folk music. I just love folk music. I thought this song went with the mountain photo. I figured that you would appreciate this song if you had heard it. Cheers.
ReplyDeleteLisa you hit it right on the head! I wish you could hear my DH sing Rocky Top. He has an amazing voice and I bet does the best rendition of this song as anyone!
